I think Michael, the main love interest in Corrupt, was too rough for me. I can’t help, but compare this book to Corrupt and see how different they are. He has some dark, alpha vibes going on and he definitely pushes Ryen, but he pushes her to become a better person. This made her character growth so fun to read and it was refreshing to read about a deeply selfish female character romance! She’s mean and steps on other people to feel secure. It was nice to see a female character like Ryen who put up a front and a terrible one at that.

Now, let’s just get to it and talk about why I really enjoyed this book.įirst of all, the two main characters, Ryen and Misha, were A1. It even made me want to continue the series once I saw that some of the main boys from the Devil’s Night series made an appearance in Punk 57.Īm I a masochist? I really can’t tell at this point, but hey as long as I’m enjoying the book, I don’t care. I picked up Punk 57 hearing that it was tamer than the Devil’s Night series and I am so glad I did. Well, Mackensi, you stupid fucking bitch. I was almost disappointed because that’s a genre I really wanted to jump into. I just assumed I liked dark romances with alpha males, but maybe I was wrong.

So, I told myself I wouldn’t read anymore Penelope Douglas. Hell, maybe I’m a big fat hypocrite, but I felt for the main character and I hated watching her get stepped on. Does that make me as demented as the characters in the book? Probably. I wanted her to get revenge, like run him over with a car or cut off his fingers sort of revenge. Truth be told, I didn’t want our main protagonist to get with the guy. I was not ready for all the trauma and drama that is Corrupt. I recently watched a booktuber talking about her books and how they were “dark as fuck.” So, I decided to read Corrupt and even though I received warnings about its target audience, I was still not prepared. I’m not going to lie Penelope Douglas scared me.
